How much can you give to a cause before the battling finally
takes an irreparable toll on an already suffering body and
mind? In the minds of these four young men, there is no question
of ever having given enough...
"We are what we do... without this we would cease to
exist."
Its this attitude that has kept Kody on the road throughout
a gruelling year of endless touring. In the last 12 months,
the four piece have played everywhere from a small local Irish
bar in Falmouth to the worlds most famous club, the Liverpool
Cavern. One night theyre playing to 400 people in a theatre
on the Isle of Wight and a few days later to a hand full of
strangers in a quaint riverside ale house in Newcastle...
"Its the ups and downs that make it special. It takes
that monotony out of life..."
This rollercoaster existence they now (semi) enjoy is a far
cry from their quiet small town roots. Kody are from the Isle
of Wight, a small diamond shaped piece of land four miles
off the south coast of England. Places of beauty and interest,
why go anywhere else? asks the tourist board... fair question.
"Its a great place to grow up and a great place to retire...
its the middle portion that will break you."
Question answered...
In a small town geared toward the almost extinct package
tourist, what else is there to do but form a band and get
fake ID? Not much apparently, therefore Gareth, Tom, Tim and
Turlough set about their mission for world domination in the
back street bars of a dying town.
After playing in several different local bands Gareth and
Turlough finally joined forces in the summer of 2003, Tim
joined as a second guitarist a few months later and Kody began
to take shape...
Almost three years had passed with the odd glimmer of something
followed up with a swift slap to the collective bruised face...
The band has moved to London and had to move home again, lived
in Surrey and had to move home again...
But continuous gigging in Londons premier venues and the
experience of recording in top studios with world renowned
producers, Nick Smith (The Police) and Simon Handhart (Zomba,
Bowie) have levelled the scales...
"We were lost in a state of disarray and didnt know
what was going to happen from one minute to the next. But
were a stronger unit for all that has happened..."
It was in this lost period that Nigel Taffy Lloyd joined
as a honoury fifth member. Taffy is the bands driver, roadie,
tour manager and father away from home.
This period is over now and Tom Ladds has since joined the
line up as the missing piece.
With this addition the boys have matured into one of the
countries hardest working bands... No venue too small, no
crowd too intimidating... Kody will be there come rain or
shine giving everything they have...
"I think were a little old fashioned to be honest. Were
a band based around songs. This obsession with image really
isnt our scene. I hope our sincerity comes across. Thats our
aim, to be real."
Heres to the future. Clich?s all the way. Live the dream...
